Lego Thunderjaw MOC

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favorite games on the PS4. And even one of my personal best games of all times! Guerrilla Games did a fantastic job in creating an action RPG game that has amazing environments with different biomes: Snowy tundra, lush jungle and huge deserts. Best dinosaur/animals inspired robots in any game with life like animations and interesting behaviors. And finally, an excellent sci-fi story.
As a Lego fan, I was really thrilled when I discovered that someone created a Lego model of The Thunderjaw: one of the most fearsome foes/robots in the game.
Massive shoutout to the artist Nicola Stocchi that created this amazing MOC. Instructions and parts list can be found over at MocBay.
Buying the Lego Pieces:
I used Bricklink to buy the 4700+ Lego pieces. Really positive over all experience. I only had inventory problems with couple of pieces: 48452cx1 (Technic, Turntable Large Type 2 with Black Outside Gear Section) and 44225 (Technic, Rotation Joint Disk with Pin and 3L Liftarm Thick). Both of them were “rare” when I did my purchase, so I had to buy them separately in order to have the best offers.
Core Skeleton:
It all started with the core skeleton and the legs following Nicola Stocchi‘s instructions, which are really great and easy to follow.
In the beginning, things didn’t make any sense. But things started to shape up nicely further on in the instructions.
And what is really nice is the little easter egg: the heart of the Thunderjaw that you can see in the photos. Minifig for scale 🙂
All Different Body Parts:
Next step was creating all the different body parts. This bit was a fun one as I started to see how things are going to look like in the end.
Small Modifications: I love the Bright Light Orange/Flame Yellowish Orange Lego color . And luckily I had extra pieces from other sets. So I modified the finally used armor plating on the neck and tail to introduce more of it. It is really a subtle change, but I’m happy with the final result.
